Okay so I really need some advice because this is driving me crazy. I bought my car about two years ago and I treat it really well but small scratches just keep showing up out of nowhere. I park carefully, I wash it by hand, I do everything right but the paint still looks bad. My neighbor told me that in Abu Dhabi the sand and dust in the air is actually a big reason for this because it settles on the car and causes tiny scratches even when nothing touches it directly. He said he used Abu Dhabi Car Paint Shield Experts last year and his car has looked much better ever since. I checked and finally understood how paint protection film works and why it actually helps in dusty and hot places like here. I really wish I had done this when the car was new. Has anyone else had this problem and did the film actually stop new scratches from appearing or does it only slow things down a little?

The dust settling thing is really underrated as a cause, people assume scratches only come from direct contact but fine sand particles getting wiped across paint during regular dusting or light wind exposure genuinely does cause micro scratching over time. Even careful hand washing can grind that dust in if you're not using enough lubrication or the right technique.

Had almost the exact same experience before getting film done, thought I was doing everything right too but the swirl marks kept appearing from what felt like nowhere. Turned out to be exactly what you're describing, ambient dust and grit rather than anything I was doing wrong with my washing routine.

Film definitely does more than just slow things down in my experience, genuinely stopped new visible scratches from showing up on the protected panels specifically. The unprotected areas like the roof on mine still pick up occasional marks though, so coverage choice matters for how complete the protection feels.

Wish someone had told me this when my car was new too, ended up doing PPF two years in like you're considering now and the paint underneath already had some dulling that the film couldn't fully fix, just protected from further damage. Earlier is definitely better if you're set on doing it.

Your washing technique might actually be fine, this sounds more environmental than anything you're doing wrong honestly. Dust and heat combination here really is rough on paint even for people who are genuinely careful. Film seems like the logical next step if hand washing alone isn't cutting it anymore.
