Star schema is easier to understand for me because the fact table is in the middle and there is no hierarchy and no need to go through any junction tables to reach the dimension tables. It is useful to keep queries simple and can be employed for reports and business intelligence. The major tradeoff is that there is some data duplication in dimensions.
